Slovak Dance Theatre (SDT) originated in April 2005 on the impulse of the choreographer and director Ján Ďurovčík. It continued to the tradition of one of the most successful Slovak chamber theaters, Bratislava Dance Theatre (BDT), which confirmed justification of dance modernism among the domestic as well as foreign audience. The first premiere - Bolero/Story of a Mother – was introduced in the Bratislava Arena Theatre.

 

SDT is an independent dance-theatre body based on project system without permanent artistic operation. It shall enable professional development of artistic interpreters: dancers, singers and actors. It is working on the principle of equality of dance with the other theatre genres. It offers space for coming across to young talents, interested in improvement of their movement culture. SDT, in the course of its short existence executed totally 134 performances in various cities of Central Europe. As the only body of this format, it presented in premi?re the author’s work of Ján Ďurovčík - Bolero/Story of a Mother - in Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. 

In the Theatre Season 2008 / 2009, the dancers of the SDT participated in the successful world tour  “The Firebird World Tour“. During that period they presented performances in New York, London, Krakow, Amsterdam, the Polish town Bytom and Antwerpen. The latest work of Jan Durovcik for the SDT – Carmen – was premiered on March 2010, and currently is on its nationwide tour in Slovakia.
